How we verify

This category is full of confidently stated numbers that nobody published. We would rather show you a gap than fill it, so here is exactly how the figures on this site are sourced.

Every spec has a source and a date

Each record carries the URL it was read from and the day a human read it. Specs for one product often come from several places, because the price sits on a product page, the placement geometry sits in an installation manual, and software compatibility is published by the software maker rather than the sensor maker. So records carry several sources, and each group of figures says which one it came from.

A shop's number and a maker's number are not the same number

Specialist retailers publish space requirements that the manufacturers simply do not, and that data is genuinely useful, so we carry it rather than pretend it does not exist. But we do not let it do the same work. A figure from the maker can rule a product out of your room. A figure from a retailer can only mark it as tight. Being wrong in that direction would tell you your room is impossible on the strength of a shop's estimate, and that is the wrong error to make.

Empty beats guessed

A dash means the maker does not publish that figure. It never means we could not be bothered. Right now 17 of the 18 launch monitors we track publish no minimum ceiling height at all, which is worth knowing in itself. Any specific ceiling figure you see quoted for those units somewhere else came from a third party.

Where the sensor sits decides the room, not what kind of sensor it is

The usual split is radar against camera. For room fit that split is wrong. Some camera units mount overhead and some sit beside the ball, and at least one radar unit mounts overhead too. What matters is whether the sensor sits behind the ball, beside it, or above it, so that is what we sort and check by.

A ceiling can be too high

Overhead sensors calibrate inside a mount-height band. A ceiling above that band does not rule the unit out, it needs a drop mount to bring the sensor into range, so we mark it as tight rather than as a failure. A ceiling below the band is a genuine no.

The vendor's room figures beat our arithmetic

Where a retailer publishes a minimum room size for a specific package, we use it and say so. They have installed hundreds of these and we have installed none. We only fall back to working it out from the sensor and the enclosure separately when nobody published anything.

Commercial placement and verified specs never merge

Some outbound links earn a commission. No spec, verdict, ranking or table position can be bought, and no arrangement changes a number. Editorial citations link straight to the source with no commercial tagging at all, which is why they look different from the buying links.

The numbers that are ours

Some judgement is unavoidable. A room either physically holds a simulator or it does not, but comfortable is a decision. Rather than blend our standards into the manufacturers’ and let you assume they are all the same kind of number, here is the split. Safety floors can rule a product out. These can only ever mark a fit as tight. Missing one means the room works but you will notice it, never that the product will not go in.

What this does not claim

  • We have not tested these units. Everything here is read from published documentation and cited, not measured by us.
  • We do not publish accuracy tolerances, because with very few exceptions the manufacturers do not either. Where a maker states an accuracy claim we quote it and attribute it rather than turning it into a number of our own.
  • Prices move constantly and promotional pricing is common. Treat every price here as the figure on the date shown beside it.
  • Products in this category turn over roughly every two years. Where a unit has been replaced we say so on its page rather than quietly removing it.
