SkyTrak golf simulators

SkyTrak makes the side-placed launch monitors that put a home simulator within a spare-room budget. The current flagship is the ST MAX, and the SkyTrak+ it replaced is still widely sold through retailers. Because SkyTrak units sit beside the ball rather than behind it, they need materially less room depth than a radar unit.

Room depth is the minimum this unit can work in, counting clearance behind the screen, ball flight and the space the sensor itself needs. A dash means the maker does not publish that figure, never that we guessed it. Each unit’s page lists its sources and the date they were read.

Every SkyTrak unit we track sit beside the ball, so they impose no ceiling requirement of their own and need no space behind you beyond your own backswing. The trade is that a shared bay with a left handed golfer means moving the unit between sessions.

ST MAX needs a paid plan before you can play a course rather than just hit balls. Budget for it from the start rather than discovering it after the box arrives.

What SkyTrak tells you before you buy

SkyTrak publishes some of it and leaves the rest to retailers and forums.

Where a maker publishes nothing we do not borrow a number. The unit is checked against our own 8 ft floor and the row says so, which is the whole method set out on how we verify.

Will a SkyTrak fit your room?

Ceiling height and room depth decide this more than budget does, and the answer differs across SkyTrak’s own range because the sensors do not all sit in the same place.

Room figures are the retailer’s own published minimum for that package, not our arithmetic. Where a retailer publishes none we fall back to checking the launch monitor and the enclosure separately and say so. We show one price and never a struck-through one, because a was-price is a claim about the past that we cannot check. Prices move often, so treat these as the figure on the date each package cites.

Common questions

How much room does a SkyTrak golf simulator need?+

SkyTrak publishes minimum and ideal room sizes for each of its studio packages. The 10 ft studio lists an 11 ft wide by 16 ft deep room with a 9 ft ceiling as the minimum, and 12 to 14 ft wide by 17 to 20 ft deep with a 9 to 10 ft ceiling as ideal. Because the unit sits beside the ball you do not need the extra depth a radar monitor needs behind the hitting position.

Does SkyTrak require a subscription?+

Yes for anything beyond basic use. Basic app functions work without one, but course play and game improvement sit behind paid membership tiers. Check the current tier prices on SkyTrak's membership page, as they were restructured recently.
