Garmin sells the Approach R10 and R50, the most accessible entry into home simulation. The R10 is a radar unit that sits behind the ball, which makes room depth its real constraint rather than price. Garmin is also one of the few manufacturers that publishes exact placement geometry in its owner's manual.

Approach R10 sit behind the ball, so room depth is the constraint that decides whether they work for you. The sensor needs floor space behind the tee on top of your ball flight, which is what rules out most garages.
Approach R50 sit beside the ball, so they impose no ceiling requirement of their own and need no space behind you beyond your own backswing. The trade is that a shared bay with a left handed golfer means moving the unit between sessions.
Approach R10, Approach R50 need a paid plan before you can play a course rather than just hit balls. Budget for it from the start rather than discovering it after the box arrives.

How much space does the Garmin Approach R10 need?+
Garmin's owner's manual specifies placing the launch monitor between 6 and 8 ft behind the tee, and keeping the tee at least 8 ft from the net indoors. Adding clearance behind the screen, that puts the practical minimum room depth at around 15 ft.
What ceiling height does the Garmin R10 need?+
Garmin does not publish one. The manual says only to ensure there is adequate ceiling height. Any specific ceiling figure you see quoted for the R10 comes from a third party rather than from Garmin, so we check it against our own 8 ft safety floor and say so.
