Your first golf simulator
The short answer
Spend on the room and the mat before the sensor. A beginner improves through repetition, and what stops repetition is a setup that is awkward to use, not a launch monitor that is half a mile per hour off on ball speed. The expensive mistake is buying hardware that does not fit the only room you have.
What actually matters early
That you will use it. A setup you have to assemble each time gets used twice. This is the strongest argument for solving the room properly, even at the cost of a cheaper sensor.
Honest ball flight. A believable carry number and a shot shape that matches what you felt. Every unit here clears that bar.
A mat you can hit off repeatedly. Underrated and the thing most likely to hurt you. A thin mat punishes a fat strike straight into your wrists, which is precisely the strike a beginner makes most.
Safe corners to cut
Club data. Useful once your strike repeats. Before that it is mostly noise, and on many units it requires sticking reflective markers on your clubs every session.
Tour grade accuracy. The gap between a good consumer unit and a professional one is real and it is not where a beginner improves.
The biggest screen. A wider enclosure needs a wider room and a brighter projector. Get the depth right first.
The corner not to cut is depth. It is the only one you cannot fix later without moving house.

Complete builds rather than bare sensors, because a sensor on its own is not a simulator and pricing one against the other is how people end up short. Check the room column before the price column.
