The best golf simulator for your home
The short answer
There is no single best one, and any page that gives you a ranked list without asking about your room is answering the wrong question. The best home simulator is the one that fits the space you have. Get that right and the remaining choice is comfortably easy. Get it wrong and the specs never mattered.
Why we will not rank them for you
Almost every list in this category is written by someone who sells simulators, and the rankings track margin more closely than merit. But even an honest ranking would be misleading here, because the constraint that decides this purchase is not a property of the product. It is a property of your room.
A radar unit that reviews brilliantly needs six to nine feet behind the tee. If your garage does not have that, its review score is irrelevant. An overhead unit that suits a purpose-built studio can fail a twelve foot ceiling for being mounted too high to calibrate. These are not edge cases, they are the normal outcome of buying on specs first.
Step one, measure
Three numbers. Floor to the lowest obstruction, wall to wall along the target line, and wall to wall across your stance. The first one is the one people get wrong, because they measure to the ceiling and forget the duct.

Step two, choose within what fits
Once the room has narrowed the field, three things separate what is left.
Cost of ownership, not sticker price. 2 units we track need no subscription at all, which over five years can more than close a large gap in hardware price. Work out the five year total before comparing.
Who else plays. If a right handed and a left handed golfer will share the room, you need real width, and a side-mounted sensor has to be physically moved between them. An overhead or behind-ball unit does not.
How well documented it is. This is an unusual criterion and we think it is a real one. Makers who publish exact placement geometry and honest specs tend to be the ones who support the product afterwards. Sorting the database by best documented is not a proxy for quality, but it is a proxy for how much you will be guessing.
If your room is tight, start here
Between 8 ft and 9 ft, or under about sixteen feet of depth, sensors that sit beside the ball are the reliable path. They impose no ceiling requirement of their own and they need no space behind you.

What is the best golf simulator for home use?+
The one your room can hold. Ceiling height and room depth eliminate more options than budget does, and a unit that is excellent in a 20 ft studio is simply unusable in a 14 ft garage. Narrow by space first, then choose on specs and cost of ownership within what is left.
How much should I spend on a home golf simulator?+
Budget for a complete package rather than a launch monitor, because a sensor alone is not a simulator. Then add five years of whichever software plan you would actually use, since that often outweighs the price gap between two units.
