What is specific to this room

The club reaches higher than you think

At the top of a driver backswing the head sits roughly three to four feet above your own height. A six foot golfer is therefore asking for around nine and a half feet of clear air, which an eight foot ceiling does not have. What saves the room is that irons and wedges need far less, so an eight foot bay is a genuine short game and iron space even when it is not a driver one.

Overhead sensors are ruled out first, not last

Every overhead unit mounts inside a fixed band measured from the hitting surface, and the bottom of that band sits above eight feet on every model we track. That eliminates a whole class of sensor before you compare a single spec, which is why this page leads with what sits beside the ball.

The fix is often two inches, not a different room

Lowering the hitting surface is easier than raising a ceiling. Removing a thick mat and hitting off a thinner one, or recessing the mat into the floor, buys back real clearance for a fraction of what a different sensor costs.

Can you use a golf simulator with an 8 foot ceiling?+

Yes, with limits. Taller golfers and full driver swings are the first thing to go. Measure to the lowest duct, joist or light rather than to the finished ceiling, because that is what your club will actually hit.
